Since 1973
Frogpuncher Custom Guitars by Greg Alexander evolved in 2014 from a passion for guitar playing, and an obsession with woodworking. I have been a General Contractor for my entire adult life, and have crafted thousands of incredible projects. In these were tons of intricate millwork and custom woodwork tasks. Lots of stair railings, Libraries, custom cabinetry, and some ridiculous requests that ended up being masterpieces. Wood is my medium, for sure.
I started playing guitar in 1973, and in the late 70’s into the 80’s We had a good band, played with the likes of Heart, Steve Miller, Robert Cray, and even opened for Rush twice . The problem was, I needed money. The guitar got put away for the construction business, but not completely.
Fast Forward 35 years…
I decided to build my first guitar in 2014 when I could not find one off the rack that satisfied my needs. I had sold my collection after the construction crash of 2008 to help keep afloat. These were Amazing custom pieces, and it broke my heart.
I studied absolutely anything and everything I could find about electric guitar building for about a year, math, the electronics, fretting, neck options, etc. Woodworking and finishing were already part of my lifestyle with the custom millwork I had been making. My wife thought I was losing it.
My passion for woodworking had me collecting slabs of beautiful materials from trees taken down from my construction sites, so we are well stocked. We have incorporated a sawmill to cut our own billets, dry them and build from them. I outsourced exotic woods for backs, some necks, and fretboards.
We are capable of just about any type of electric build. I am a tone chaser. The inventory we have is all built for a certain tone I needed to chase at the time of the build. They are unique, one of a kind, and a very personal instrument. It will be yours and yours only. No one else can ever have one like it. Each Frogpuncher Guitar paints a unique sonic portrait. Man, I don’t know how you do it! This Les Paul you built is making all my fellow players sooo jealous. You were so right about that one piece top, it is incredible. It looks great next to the Strat and the Synister you built for me. Fit and finish are amazing, and the tone! WOW. And that ebony fretboard with Gold frets HMMM. Beyond spectacular. Lovin it! Being a lefty has it’s merits, no one can play it but me. Nice touch on the “Tater Special” truss rod cover.
